My son loves Godzilla and any monster of the sort. So of course we needed a Godzilla cake. I decided that the Golden Gate Bridge would be fun to make and just add all sorts of toy figures to go along with it. The gate is made of graham crackers and covered with red fondant along with red vines candy for the cables of the bridge.
This cake was all about bikes. My friend turning 40 is a cat 2 road racing mad man. He lives and breathes biking. So of course when his wife asked me to make a cake for him it had to be about bikes. I didn’t think I had it in me to construct a nice looking bicycle, so that is a miniature bike that spins and brakes on the side. The rest of the design I took ideas from his teams jersey, the flame is part of their logo. Of course he’s a beer lover so I added the bottle opener. The remainder of gears are just from fondant made the day before and dried so they could stand up at the top.
One of my best friend’s sweet daughter was having her 5th birthday, and as with most girls this year it’s all about the Disney movie Frozen. At first I was going to put some toy characters from the movie on the cake but mom said no dolls necessary. This worked out better because ever since Frozen won an Academy Award it’s impossible to find anything related except a yellow Olaf T-shirt and some utensils. Instead I kept it simple with a crown, snowflakes and shimmer spray, though I may have gone a bit over board with the snowflakes.
I was asked to make a simple present cake with a simple bow, but sometimes I like to try out different techniques… and somehow they tend to be more difficult. Nonetheless this was fun and easy to do.
Our school director loves the Statute of Liberty. Plus she’s a teacher so I had to incorporate some school supplies. Also she wears these cute glasses, the girls who asked for the cake suggested I try to make them…asked them to snag a photo of her glasses. The coffee mug and apple are rice krispie treats covered with modeling chocolate to make it smooth, then covered with fondant.
Here is a fun little owl cake I made for a birthday party. She likes purple, though I may have gone a little over board with it!
Here was my first stab at a shoe cake. It was a lot of fun making the shoe, actually my first time playing with gum paste too.
